About Gary Goldstein
President of The Goldstein Company, a film and television production company based in Los Angeles, Gary Goldstein has been involved with some of Hollywood’s biggest box-office successes. His films have generated over a billion dollars in worldwide revenue, and received multiple Academy Award nominations, People’s Choice Awards, a Golden Globe and various other awards and nominations.
His passion for film, media and technology has enabled Gary to consistently reinvent and energize other people’s messages, products and businesses. The skills he has used to climb from know-nothing newcomer to mega-success can be applied to any business or career.
Goldstein left behind his career as an attorney in San Francisco to move to Los Angeles to create a literary management firm, representing writers and writer-directors. Beginning in 1988, he launched his producing career with a number of lower budget theatrical features and films for television.
Goldstein developed and co-produced the critically acclaimed PRETTY WOMAN with Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. Directed by Garry Marshall, PRETTY WOMAN went on to become the highest grossing live-action film in Disney’s history, garnering the People’s Choice Awards for Best Picture, Best Comedy, Best Actor and Best Actress, as well as both a Golden Globe Award and Oscar Nomination for Julia Roberts.
Goldstein went on to Executive Produce UNDER SIEGE for Warner Bros., directed by Andrew Davis and starring Tommy Lee Jones and Steven Seagal; as well as produce THE HUNTED at Universal, starring Christopher Lambert, Joan Chen and John Lone. With the success of UNDER SIEGE, which included two Oscar nominations, Goldstein optioned and developed the original screenplay “Dark Territory”, which he tailored to become a sequel – UNDER SEIGE 2: IN DARK TERRITORY for Warner Bros. Goldstein produced the comedy RINGMASTER, starring Jerry Springer and released by Artisan Entertainment.
Goldstein went on to produce the much-heralded adaptation of THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, a poignant romantic thriller for Lakeshore Entertainment and Sony, starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney, directed by Mark Pellington (“Arlington Road”).
Goldstein is set to produce APNEA, a drama set amidst the most daring of extreme sports. When man leaves his modern world and, with one breath trespasses upon his primordial past, he re-enters the food chain as both hunter and the hunted. Spearing monster fish in deep ocean, these real-life daredevils hold their breath between 8 and 15 minutes, while being dragged at furious speeds to the depths of the ocean.
Goldstein is also developing Eric Kmetz’s thriller THE OTHER SIDE OF SIMPLE for New Line Cinema.
Goldstein is shaping the extraordinary tale, NUVOLARI, a big budget epic about Italy’s legendary car racer, Tazio Nuvolari who wins against impossible odds and humiliates Hitler when he defeats the entire Nazi-backed Mercedes racing team at the 1935 German Grand Prix. Nuvolari pulls off this shocking ‘upset’ in an obsolete Alfa Romeo that has been modified by a young Enzo Ferrari. David Franzoni (‘Gladiator’) will likely do a production polish on David Baxter’s stunning screenplay; Jude Law and Adrien Brody have expressed keen interest in playing the film’s leads.
Gary’s passionate approach to life extends well beyond his role as film producer. He’s an author, speaker, philanthropist, and lifelong learner, whose core values exalt service, integrity, teamwork, and brokering inspired people and brilliant ideas.
Gary Goldstein received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, and earned a J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law.
